How To Build A Business As A Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (Without seeing 1:1 clients)

So, you just got your NTP/NTC certification(ok…I think it’s called FNTP now? I feel old…)

You’re SUPER excited about the idea of starting to finally make some money and help people…

…But you’re not totally enthused by the idea of seeing 1:1 clients all day long.

I hear you, loud and clear.

In fact, by the time I had my first full load of 1:1 Nutritional Therapy clients AND was still working my full-time job (because I was way undercharging, but that’s a whole ‘nother story) I had this moment of “oh sh*t”.

It wasn’t sustainable (I was exhausted)

I felt like a broken record (I was attracting all of the same types of clients)

I wanted freedom in my time/schedule (and wanted to travel the world at the same time) and having to coordinate time zones with my clients was a real biatch.

So WHAT did I do?

Well, it wasn’t a quick process, but i’ll give you the cliff-notes version of each of the systems I set up in my online nutrition business so that I could be making money, on my own time, WITHOUT ever seeing 1:1 clients (And you can TOTALLY do the same thing if your goal is travel! Freedom!)

How to build a business as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (without seeing 1:1 clients):

  1. Make sure you have a digital or physical offer to SELL.

I know, maybe that seems obvious. But if you want to make money as an NTP/NTC online (without seeing clients) you’re going to need to sell…something.

This could be an e-book, an online course, a subscription box, a nutrition-info-membership site, a product you love (Beautycounter! Essential oils!) a pre-recorded training, audio/video, templates, meal plans, or literally ANY thing else you can think of, that your ideal client/audience wants.

Don’t know who your audience is or what they would actually PAY for yet? I’ve got you covered.

2. How to figure out who your ideal client/audience is:

Usually, the person that you want to sell to/market to/help…is a replica of who YOU were, a few years prior to now. Before you knew what you know now.

What were you struggling with then?

What was keeping you up at night?

What were you ferociously googling?

Most importantly: what would you have PAID your hard earned money for?

Now, how can you create a resource for THAT person, that would save them time, energy or money? Always put your ideas through the “YOU” test:

If you wouldn’t have paid for it back then, either will they.

Ok, so now you (hopefully) have an idea of a digital resource or physical product that you can sell to your ideal client as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.

So…now how do you FIND people to buy it?

3. Find (the right) people to buy it

There are TONS of ways to get your name out there to the right people, (aka your ideal client) but if your goal is to sell a digital product or service from the comfort of your own home (or airbnb) then your approach needs to be quite strategic and aimed at an online presence.

A few ideas are:

Blogging

Podcasting

Youtube videos

Other social media sites (Instagram, Facebook, etc)

My top recommendations?

The first 3 (Blogging, podcasting and/ or Youtube videos) BECAUSE they are all platforms that you own…unlike Instagram that could be gone tomorrow, or change up the algorithm on you.

Choose 1 platform that you will ENJOY being on - for example if you hate writing, blogging will probably suck the life out of you. Play up your strengths!

4. Create content, consistently

Building a thriving, multiple six figure business as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner is definitely not something that happens overnight. But guess what? It is TOTALLY possible if you are consistent. Create consistent content on the platform of your choice (1x a week is ideal!) that is aimed at your ideal client.

Aim to create content that answers a question they are looking for. (I.e. “how to heal from adrenal fatigue with a paleo diet”) Get specific!

5. Sell your digital product/resource, effortlessly

Sounds too good to be true, right? But trust me, if you follow the rest of these steps (creating content, attracting the right type of client, providing them the answer to their most burning questions) they are going to be BEGGING for more from you.

This is when you come in with the seamless sell:

  1. From your content platform of choice, send them to a landing page where they can sign up for even more free goodies, guides, resources from you

  2. Use that as an “opt-in” to get them on your e-mail list

  3. Create an “automation” or “rule” within your e-mail service provider that says: “if X person opts into X freebie, start the sales ‘funnel’”

What is a sales “funnel” you ask?

In this example, it is just a series of pre-written emails, spaced out appropriately (1 day or so apart for as many days as you decide), that are aimed at giving your new e-mail subscriber even MORE value, while inviting them to learn more by taking “action” on your paid offer.

This could look like:

“Hey X!

Thanks for downloading my free guide to healing adrenal fatigue with a paleo diet. I hope you’re enjoying the recipes!

The nutrition piece is so essential feeling better, but:

There was 1 thing that really helped me improve during my own adrenal fatigue recovery- and that was meditation.

Grab my audio mediations for adrenal fatigue HERE and receive $20 off for the next 24 hours only”

Obviously, you’d want to be a little more personable and value-giving in this e-mail, but that’s just a quick example of what i’m talking about.
